Weekly Announcements

Only one week left before Spring Break! Yea!!

Here are a few announcements for the week.

Book Bags: New book bags will come home tomorrow and can be kept through Spring Break.

Trash to Treasure: We have started working on our new science unit "Trash to Treasure." Each student will be creating something useful out of old materials that are no longer needed. Students should be on the lookout at home for items they may need to create their project (recyclable items, boxes, containers, scraps of material, etc.) that they can bring into school All items should things that are no longer needed or used at home. We will begin working on these tomorrow and continue to work throughout this week and the week after Spring Break.

Thank you/Houston fundraiser: Please read the following letter from Amy Calhoun thanking all of the families who donated to our Houston Adopt a Classroom fundraiser.

Dear Bobcat Families,

Words can’t express the gratitude we have for your generosity supporting the Hurricane Harvey victims. I told the students in our assembly (tearfully, as I’m sure you heard) that in my wildest imagination I could not have imagined how much money our school community would raise!! In case you didn’t get the exact number, it was $2,393. 20!! Each child in Ms. Chavez’s class will received a $100 gift card, Ms. Chavez will receive $500 for her class and another $500 will go to the principal for their relief fund. Simply amazing and such a wonderful example of giving for our kids to see.

I spoke to the principal of Burnett Elementary and he is deeply grateful. We are working out the details about getting such a large amount of money to them, but it will be on it’s way soon. He did fill me in on their current situation and this will have great impact. Their enrollment in the May was about 580 students. After the hurricane, they lost 150 families because their homes were gone. Some have begun to return, but 99% of their families were impacted and 86% had homes damaged or destroyed. Some walked in water for days in their homes while their children sat on beds to stay dry. In one apartment complex alone the whole bottom floor had to be condemned impacting 75 apartments.

The principal also informed me that they would be making a video to show gratitude to all those that helped. Stay tuned for that at the end of the school year!

Thanks from the bottom of our Larkspur hearts,

Amy Calhoun

I hope everyone has a great week and relaxing Spring Break next week.
